Responsibility for hospitality, the city and businesses
As a family-run 4-star city hotel in Innsbruck, we combine personal hospitality with responsible corporate management. Our guests include city breakers, business travellers and companies that use our ‘Ideenwohnzimmer’ for meetings, seminars and workshops.
For us, this sense of responsibility also extends to our use of energy, resources and greenhouse gas emissions. That is why we track the key emissions from our hotel operations, develop specific measures for improvement and provide transparent updates on our progress.
Our long-term goal is to reduce the Leipziger Hof’s carbon footprint and to provide guests, companies and partners with clear information about our climate action measures.
Our carbon footprint
In the 2024/25 financial year, we calculated the corporate carbon footprint (CCF) of our hotel operations for the first time.
The calculation was carried out in accordance with the internationally recognised principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, using the ESG Cockpit developed by akaryon GmbH.
Emissions categories taken into account
Scope 1: Direct emissions from energy and fuel consumption in hotel operations.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions along our supply chain, for example from food, hired linen and waste.
Results for the 2024/25 financial year
- 284.5 tonnes ofCO₂eper year
- 8.24 kgCO₂eper overnight stay including breakfast
- 5.91 kgCO₂eper overnight stay excluding meals
The analysis shows that around 96 per cent of the emissions recorded originate in the supply chain. Food, hire linen and waste are therefore particularly relevant areas for action.
Our climate target
Based on the carbon footprint assessment, we have developed a climate action plan for the Leipziger Hof.
Our aim is to reduce the hotel’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2040, compared with the base year 2024/25.
In doing so, we are focusing in particular on those areas where the assessment identifies the greatest and most realistically achievable potential for savings. The measures and their impact are reviewed regularly. The Climate Action Plan is updated on the basis of new findings and revised carbon footprint assessments.
The Climate Action Plan translates the findings of our carbon footprint assessment into specific areas for action. It sets out measures, responsibilities and implementation timelines, and serves as the basis for the ongoing development of our hotel operations.
We are working to gradually reduce the hotel’s energy consumption and make the running of the building more efficient. Planned and ongoing measures include:
- Improving energy efficiency
- Optimising heating and ventilation systems
- Assessing the possibility of switching to district heating
- Taking certified electricity products into account when selecting future suppliers
As a hotel with an à la carte restaurant, a breakfast buffet and a lunch menu, catering plays a significant role in our carbon footprint. Our priorities are:
- Expanding our range of plant-based dishes
- Aligning our menu planning with current dietary guidelines
- Reducing food waste
- A stronger focus on regional and seasonal produce
- Responsible use of materials and packaging
Cleaning and the volume of laundry also affect a hotel’s energy, water and resource consumption. That is why we are working, amongst other things, on:
- more efficient laundry management
- reducing the volume of laundry in guest rooms and the restaurant
- room cleaning on request for stays of several days
- a more conscious use of detergents and cleaning products
When purchasing vehicles in future, we will be looking into the gradual electrification of our fleet.
Business journeys are also to be better recorded, consolidated and optimised with the help of suitable analysis and planning tools.
Our guests’ journeys to and from the property are not included in the corporate carbon footprint currently calculated. However, they have a significant impact on the overall carbon footprint of a trip. We therefore provide our guests with information on:
- travelling by train and bus
- public transport in Innsbruck
- the Welcome Card
- NaturTrip and other options for car-free excursions
- sustainable transport options in the region
For us, climate action is not a one-off project, but an ongoing process.
We regularly review the implementation of our action plan and update our carbon footprint at set intervals. The results form the basis for evaluating existing measures, setting new priorities and continuing to pursue our climate target.
Leipziger Hof is a partner in the Climate Action Alliance – Innsbruck Region network, known as CAARI for short.
The network promotes exchange and cooperation between businesses and organisations on climate protection, climate change and climate adaptation. CAARI is a cooperation network and not a certification or quality mark scheme.
In addition, we draw on information and transport services provided by Innsbruck Tourism and other regional partners.
Even small decisions made during a stay can help to ensure that resources are used more consciously.
The Leipziger Hof is easily accessible on foot and by public transport from Innsbruck Central Station. For journeys within Tyrol and beyond, we recommend travelling by train or bus whenever possible.

For stays of several days, you can decide for yourself on which days you would like your room to be cleaned. This allows for a more targeted use of water, energy, and detergents and cleaning products.
Plant-based dishes often result in lower greenhouse gas emissions than comparable meat-based dishes. That is why we are gradually expanding our range and creating more choice to cater for different dietary habits.
Innsbruck, too, is increasingly affected by prolonged heatwaves. Our reception team will be happy to provide you with information on shaded spots, drinking fountains, parks and cooler places to spend time in the city.
